Special Features:

A second maturation in heavily toasted oak gives Planteray Black Cask its subtle smoky notes. The limited 2025 edition blends rums from Barbados and Trinidad. They first mature for several years in their countries of origin in 200-litre American oak bourbon casks. Further ageing for several years follows in 350-litre Ferrand casks in south-western France.

The rums are made from molasses fermented for three to four days, with both pot stills and columns used for distillation. The dosage is 19 grams per litre. Black Cask is bottled at 40% and can be enjoyed neat or over ice.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose reveals tropical fruit accompanied by caramel, coconut, vanilla and hazelnut. Almond cream, cocoa and gingerbread complement the spicy cinnamon notes.
• Palate: The rum is rounded and fruity on the palate. Sweet molasses combines with candied raspberry, jam and gentle spice.
• Finish: Sweet coffee and coconut remain present in the lingering finish. Nutmeg and cinnamon accompany raisin and plum.

Distillery/Bottler:

Planteray, formerly Plantation, is Maison Ferrand's rum brand. Founder and Master Blender Alexandre Gabriel combines work with rums of different origins with a second maturation in France. There, the rums are transferred into previously used Ferrand oak casks. Alongside the change of cask, the cooler, more variable continental climate also influences their further development. The name Planteray combines a reference to sugar cane with the English word for a ray of sunshine.

West Indies Rum Distillery produces the Barbados component of this edition, while Trinidad Distillers Ltd. produces the Trinidad component. Founded by George Stade in 1893, the Barbados distillery is located on Spring Garden Beach. Historic stills and old records remain part of its work, alongside its own Yeast Nursery, where various yeast strains are cultivated, including strains from the local ecosystem. This combination of preserved distilling knowledge and dedicated yeast cultivation shapes the distillery's approach.
