Tropical maturation in former bourbon casks shapes Shakara 15 Year Old. It is made from local molasses distilled in a column still. The rum matures in Thailand and is bottled after 15 years at 46.2%, without added sugar or colouring. Alongside its fruitiness and spice, it also reveals notes of toasted wood.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, lively freshness meets softer impressions. Salted butter caramel, mango and chocolate mingle with beeswax and cherries steeped in brandy. As the aromas develop, mustard seed, curry and apricot emerge, lending the nose a spicy, oxidative character.
• Palate: On the palate, the rum is delicate and lively, with a silky texture. Cocoa powder, grated ginger and pine resin are initially subtle. The flavour then becomes distinctly fruitier, with orange zest, apricot flesh, mango and wild strawberry joining in.
• Finish: The full finish recalls a lightly browned apricot tart. Autumnal and woody impressions gradually emerge, with mushrooms, chestnuts, black liquorice and lichen. On exhaling, delicate medicinal hints of clove ointment and iodine tincture appear, accompanied by cane sugar sweetness and a vegetal sugarcane note.

Distillery/Bottler:

Shakara matures in the tropical climate of Nakhon Pathom in Thailand. The brand highlights Southeast Asia's long sugarcane tradition. Its name also draws on this heritage, deriving from the Sanskrit word shakar. The range includes a twelve-year-old and a fifteen-year-old bottling; both combine column distillation with maturation in former bourbon casks and contain no additives.
