Special Features:

This wooden presentation box brings together three distinct Millstone whiskies. Oloroso Sherry, made from unpeated malted barley, and Peated PX Sherry, made from peated malted barley, each come in a 0.2-litre bottle at 46%. A 0.2-litre bottle of 100 Rye Whisky at 50% completes the set. The total volume is 0.6 litres. Given the equal bottle sizes and their respective strengths, the calculated average is 47.33%, or 47.3% rounded to one decimal place.

Oloroso Sherry matures for at least four years in first- and second-fill Oloroso sherry casks. Fruit and dried fruit give it a fruity, spicy character within the trio. Peated PX Sherry also matures for at least four years, but in first- and second-fill Pedro Ximénez sherry casks. Here, raisin and chocolate notes meet gentle peat smoke.

100 Rye is made from 51% unmalted and 49% malted rye. It is distilled in small copper pot stills and matures for at least 100 months in new American oak. Its citrus and spice notes contrast with the two sherry-matured malts.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Oloroso Sherry opens with orange and other citrus fruit, followed by stewed peach and apricot, then raisins, plum and a hint of dried herbs. In Peated PX Sherry, gentle campfire smoke, orange and candied lemon accompany notes of raisins, plum, liquorice and herbal tea. 100 Rye has aromas of orange blossom, grilled lime, thyme and brown sugar.
• Palate: On the palate, Oloroso Sherry combines bitter orange with chocolate-covered raisins and a light touch of black pepper. In Peated PX Sherry, warm smoke, chocolate and orange zest meet chamomile and mint, followed by a gentle grassy note. 100 Rye brings citrus fruit, pinewood and cardamom.
• Finish: Oloroso Sherry has a medium-length finish of fruit and spice. Dark chocolate and fading smoke linger in the long finish of Peated PX Sherry. In 100 Rye, apple, orange, nectarine and cardamom join pepper, vanilla and oak on the finish.

Distillery/Bottler:

Zuidam Distillers BV makes and bottles all three whiskies in Baarle-Nassau. Fred and Hélène van Zuidam founded the family business in 1976. Their son Patrick became particularly interested in whisky, and the family filled its first experimental whisky casks in 1996. The Millstone name refers to the Dutch windmills where the grain is milled.

For Millstone, Zuidam uses a seven-day fermentation and slow distillation in small copper pot stills. Both contribute to the whiskies’ fruity character; the different grains and casks give each expression in the set its own emphasis.
