The 16-year-old Aberfeldy combines bourbon cask maturation with a finishing period in Oloroso sherry casks. The whisky initially matures in first-fill, refill and recharred bourbon casks before receiving a six-month finish in first-fill Oloroso sherry casks. The additional maturation and finish accentuate the distillery’s honeyed, fruity style, adding sherry-rich fruitcake and dark chocolate.

This official bottling belongs to The Last Great Malts range. This version contains 0.7 litres, is bottled at 40% and comes in a presentation tube.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, honey, citrus notes and spicy cloves mingle with vanilla, dried fruit and a note of sherry.
• Palate: The whisky is full and sherry-led on the palate. Honeyed fruit and rich fruitcake meet dried fruit, dark chocolate, vanilla and spicy accents. The texture is soft and velvety, while the chocolate provides a slightly drier contrast to the sweetness.
• Finish: The finish is long, warming and rich, leaving a mouth-filling sensation. Chocolate, dried fruit and honey linger alongside sherry and gentle oak spice.

Distillery/Bottler:

Designed by Charles Doig, Aberfeldy Distillery stands in the town of Aberfeldy at the foot of Scotland’s Central Highlands. John Alexander and Tommy Dewar had it built to produce the malt that would give their house blends their distinctive character. Production began in 1898, and the distillery has been closely associated with Dewar’s since its beginnings. It still draws its water from the Pitilie Burn, known for its deposits of alluvial gold.

Aberfeldy uses Scottish malted barley and favours longer fermentation times. These encourage the formation of more aroma-bearing esters, which contribute to its honey-led house style. Slow distillation in copper pot stills follows. This approach shapes the fruity, honey-rich character of the distillery’s spirit, while the specific cask selection gives the 16-year-old whisky its additional sherry influence.
