Two stages of maturation shape Balblair 18 Year Old: time in American oak ex-bourbon casks is followed by further maturation in first-fill Spanish oak butts. This brings together the Highland Single Malt’s fruity character, more pronounced sweetness and spicy woody notes.

The whisky is bottled at 46%, without chill filtration or added colouring. The bottle contains 0.7 litres and comes in a premium box.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Rich toffee and baked pears lead on the nose, with new leather in the background.
• Palate: On the palate, juicy apricots combine with vanilla cream and spicy oak notes for a balanced flavour.
• Finish: The long finish is warming, with lingering spice notes and raisins.

Distillery/Bottler:

Founded in 1790, Balblair is situated in Edderton in the northern Highlands, near the Dornoch Firth and Struie Hill. Its whisky matures on the distillery grounds in traditional dunnage warehouses with earth floors.

The distillery uses wooden washbacks, a fermentation period of 62 hours and slow distillation lasting four and a half hours. Its water comes from the Allt Dearg Burn. Squat pot stills and shell-and-tube condensers form part of its equipment, while eight dunnage warehouses provide space for maturation.
