Bunnahabhain 12 Year Old is the starting point of the Islay distillery's core range. This unpeated single malt matures in bourbon and sherry casks and is bottled at 46.3%, with natural colour and without chill filtration. Fruit, nuts, malt and a delicate coastal note shape its character.

Maritime nuances provide a salty counterpoint to the combination of fruity sweetness, sherry and roasted nuts. Spice and velvety caramel complement these flavours, which linger in a long, full-bodied finish.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose is fresh, fruity and floral, with delicate dried fruit notes. Blackcurrant jam, vanilla and cloves add sweetness and spice, while a hint of seaweed complements the maritime impressions.
• Palate: Rich sherry, roasted nuts, sweet malt and juicy sultanas combine on the palate. Warming spice gradually gives way to velvety caramel, while a subtle coastal note complements the sweet, fruity profile.
• Finish: The finish is long, lingering, rich and full-bodied. Sherry notes linger with a delicate hint of sea salt.

Distillery/Bottler:

Bunnahabhain Distillery stands on Islay's remote northeastern coast, on the Sound of Islay. It was founded in 1881 by William Robertson together with brothers William and James Greenlees; production began in 1883. Houses and roads for employees and their families were built alongside the distillery.

The distillery uses water from the Margadale spring for its unpeated house style. Its pear-shaped stills have particularly long swan necks, which encourage a lighter, delicate spirit character: heavier aroma compounds are less likely to reach the top of the necks. The twelve-year-old whisky is one of Bunnahabhain's official bottlings; maturation in bourbon and sherry casks adds fruit, nuts and sweetness to this distillery character.
