For Cask Speyside, A.D. Rattray combines maturation in bourbon casks with a subsequent finish in sherry casks. This twelve-year-old single malt belongs to the Casks of Scotland range, whose small batches each showcase a Scottish whisky region. Spiced berries, citrus notes and orchard fruit take centre stage here.

For the range, up to 20 casks containing whisky from a single distillery are selected and their contents married. Cask Speyside is brought to a bottling strength of 46% and bottled without chill filtration or added colouring. The 0.7-litre bottle comes in a gift tube.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, sweet almond icing and cinnamon meet red apple and blackcurrant.
• Palate: On the palate, cherry plum and spiced honey combine with a lively citrus note of orange marmalade.
• Finish: The finish begins with a lingering touch of spice, before slightly tart blackberry notes bring it to a close.

Distillery/Bottler:

A.D. Rattray’s history began in Glasgow in 1868, when Andrew Dewar Rattray opened a grocery and spirits business. The company soon specialised in storing and blending malt and grain whiskies. Today, the independent bottler is led by the Morrison family and selects spirits and casks from across Scotland for its whiskies.

A.D. Rattray has operated its own whisky shop in Kirkoswald, Ayrshire, since 2011. With Casks of Scotland, the company complements its cask selection with regional single malts produced in small batches. Natural differences between bottlings are possible; the selection aims to preserve each whisky’s flavour style.
