Special Features:

This Convalmore matured for 40 years in a single Refill American Hogshead and forms part of Gordon & MacPhail's Private Collection. It was distilled in 1982 and bottled from cask No. 155 on 2 March 2022. The single malt therefore comes from the final years of production at a distillery that has been closed since 1985.

The whisky combines orchard fruit and exotic fruit with floral notes, toasted walnut and white chocolate. The cask yielded just 104 bottles at 55.5% alcohol. The whisky is non-chill-filtered and contains no added colouring.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: A pronounced vanilla note initially leads the nose, followed by fresh green apple and orange zest. Honeysuckle, quince and toasted walnut also develop.
• Palate: The whisky is sweet and smooth on the palate. Exotic fruit combines with poached pear and floral notes. White chocolate emerges alongside baked apple.
• Finish: The finish has a medium weight, with guava and sweet honey.

Distillery/Bottler:

Convalmore Distillery was founded in Dufftown in 1893 and began production in February 1894. It took its name and drew its water from the Conval Hills to the west. Following its closure in 1985, Wm Grant & Sons bought the site for use as a warehousing location. Convalmore whisky therefore comes from surviving old stocks.

Gordon & MacPhail bottled the whisky from cask No. 155 as an independent bottler for the Private Collection. Over four generations of family ownership, the company has gained experience in pairing spirits from more than 100 Scottish distilleries with specially selected casks. For the Private Collection, members of the Urquhart family select particularly long-matured single malts from well-known, lesser-known and closed distilleries.
