Special Features:

A finish in small Oloroso Sherry Octaves shapes this eleven-year-old Dufftown from the Darkness range. These casks have a larger internal wood surface area relative to the volume of whisky than larger casks, intensifying wood contact. This finishing period adds a pronounced sherry influence to the Single Malt, with fruity, nutty and spicy notes.

The whisky retains its natural, cask-derived dark colour and is neither coloured nor chill-filtered. It is bottled at 58.5% in a bottle containing 0.5 litres, with gift packaging. A few drops of water allow you to explore how dilution affects its aromatic profile.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, cereal porridge and hot raspberries combine with raisins, dates and cherry syrup. Malt sweets, oak and roasted walnuts add further notes.
• Palate: The whisky is dry and balanced on the palate. Caramelised almonds, chocolate-covered hazelnuts and roasted coffee accompany sweet malt, dried fruit and ripe cherries. Cinnamon rolls and cloves round out these impressions.
• Finish: Roasted nuts and dried fruit remain present throughout the long finish.

Distillery/Bottler:

Dufftown Distillery is located in the town of the same name in Speyside. Peter MacKenzie and his partners established it in 1896 on the site of a former mill; proximity to the railway helped determine the location. Following its acquisition by Arthur Bell & Sons in 1933, its spirit played an important role in blends. As a Single Malt, Dufftown is also known for its nutty and spicy character.

Darkness is a whisky range from Atom Brands and is responsible for this independent bottling. Distinctive Single Malts are selected for the range and finished in handcrafted Sherry Octaves. Atom Brands specifies a three-month finishing period for the range: these small casks are central to the concept, giving the whiskies additional sherry character and natural depth of colour.
