Gleann Dubh The Dark Glen reveals the peated side of Glenora Distillery on Cape Breton. Made from malted barley, this single malt matures for 16 years in the Canadian island’s Highlands. Its pronounced smoky character combines with fruit, malty sweetness and nutty touches.

The name The Dark Glen also alludes to the distillery’s history: after winning the legal dispute over the word Glen, Glenora deliberately chose a darker, distinctive presentation for this peated whisky. Bottled at 43% alcohol, it comes in a bottle containing 0.7 litres, with gift packaging.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Smoke and peat clearly define the nose, accompanied by fruity notes reminiscent of baked apple.
• Palate: Smoked pears meet hazelnuts on the palate. Subtle rosemary notes add a herbal accent.
• Finish: The finish combines apple with caramel sweetness and a smooth cream note.

Distillery/Bottler:

Glenora Distillery is located on Cape Breton Island in Nova Scotia. The Scottish roots of many islanders also influence its approach to whisky production. Founded in 1990, Glenora double-distils its single malt from malted barley in copper pot stills. Maturation takes place in traditional dunnage warehouses.

An important chapter in the distillery’s history is its dispute with the Scotch Whisky Association over the Glen Breton brand name. The association argued that the word Glen could suggest Scottish origin. Glenora successfully pointed to the history of local names shaped by Scottish settlers and was allowed to retain the name.
