Special Features:

An unusually long Oloroso finish shapes this fifty-year-old Glen Mhor. Distilled on 9 December 1965, the whisky initially matured in a Refill Butt before spending a further seven years and four months in an Oloroso sherry cask. Signatory Vintage bottled it from cask 3934 on 11 January 2016 for the Rare Reserve within its Cask Strength Collection. Bottled at a cask strength of 47.1%, the release comprises 353 individually numbered bottles, each containing 0.7 litres.

The whisky contains no added colouring. It comes in a velvet-lined wooden presentation box with a certificate of authenticity signed by Andrew W. Symington.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Sweet raisins and old leather meet almonds, truffles and a hint of soy sauce. Polished oak and mint complement the bouquet. Walnuts, roasted chestnuts and pronounced earthy impressions also emerge. Beef broth and bone marrow give the nose a savoury dimension; menthol comes through after a few minutes.
• Palate: The whisky is dense and layered on the palate. Sherry, toffee and dark chocolate combine with dried figs, anise and coffee. Allspice and tobacco add spicy accents. An oily texture accompanies cumin, mushrooms and meaty notes. Menthol and dark tobacco complement this savoury spiciness.
• Finish: The long finish recalls cigar boxes and dry oak. Paraffin and wax linger, accompanied by a slightly salty broth note.

Distillery/Bottler:

Glen Mhor stood in Inverness between the Caledonian Canal and the railway. Designed by Charles Doig, the distillery thus had access to two important transport routes for its business. The small operation used two stills and continued to rely on water power into the 1950s. Production ended in 1983, and the buildings were demolished in 1986.

Signatory Vintage was founded in 1988 by Andrew Symington and his brother. The independent bottler selects casks from different distilleries, highlighting their individual character through single-cask releases. Andrew Symington acquired Edradour distillery in 2002; by 2007, Signatory had moved its entire operation to the distillery’s site in Pitlochry.
