Special Features:

This Glen Moray completed its 15-year maturation with a four-month finish in a small ex-sherry Octave cask. Distilled in 2008, the whisky initially matured in oak casks. In 2024, Duncan Taylor bottled it from cask 7041174 for an exclusive German selection in The Octave series. The release yielded 90 bottles at a cask strength of 50.7%, without added colouring or chill filtration.

The ex-sherry Octave holds around 50 litres. In small casks, the internal wood surface area is greater relative to the volume of liquid, intensifying the interaction between whisky and wood. In this bottling, fruity and spicy impressions meet sweet pastry notes and toasted oak.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, mandarin and cloves mingle with raisins and oak.
• Palate: The whisky is full-bodied on the palate, recalling cinnamon rolls, caramelised almonds, prunes and toffee. Cardamom, chocolate oat biscuits and toasted oak add further notes.
• Finish: The long finish remains spicy and reveals the sweetness of cherry syrup.

Distillery/Bottler:

Glen Moray is located in Elgin on the River Lossie. Whisky has been distilled there since 1897 on the site of the former Elgin West Brewery. The distillery uses malted barley and distils in traditional copper pot stills. Early records already document the use of different cask types, making the exploration of their influence on whisky part of Glen Moray’s history from the outset.

Duncan Taylor was founded in Glasgow in 1938 as a cask broker and trading company and is now based in Huntly as an independent bottler. There, the company has its own cask warehouses, cooperage and bottling facility. With The Octave, Duncan Taylor combines the selection of mature whiskies with additional maturation in small casks.
