Special Features:

The Vindima brings together two maturation paths: Glenmorangie marries whisky from bourbon casks with whisky finished in Malmsey Madeira casks. Malmsey is the sweetest style of Madeira. This 16-year-old travel-retail release is named after Madeira’s grape-harvest festival, while the purple packaging evokes the colour of ripe grapes.

Baked peach, orange and floral aromas sit alongside vanilla and cocoa. On the palate, candied orange peel, sultanas and milk-chocolate truffles are joined by anise, cinnamon, sweet chilli and clove. Hazelnut, wood and a hint of aromatic smoke also emerge before a vinous grape note lingers. The whisky is offered at 43% in a 1-litre bottle; it is not chill-filtered and contains no added colouring.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose offers baked peach and orange, alongside cocoa, creamy vanilla and a honey-like note. Honeysuckle, jasmine and carnation add a floral touch; a little water brings out a hint of mandarin.
• Palate: The whisky feels rich and syrupy on the palate. Candied orange peel, sultanas and milk-chocolate truffles mingle with a hint of anise, as well as cinnamon, sweet chilli and clove. Hazelnut, wood and a hint of aromatic smoke round out the impression.
• Finish: The long finish remains vinous and grapey, with red apple, cherry lemonade and chocolate-covered gingerbread biscuits.

Distillery/Bottler:

Glenmorangie distils its single malt in Tain in the northern Highlands. William and Anne Matheson founded the distillery in 1843. Its exceptionally tall stills allow mainly lighter vapours to rise, contributing to the spirit’s delicate, fruity character. Glenmorangie uses Scottish barley and water from the Tarlogie spring.

Working with different casks is part of Glenmorangie’s approach to whisky-making. For The Vindima, the distillery brings together a bourbon-cask component and a component finished in Malmsey Madeira casks for a distillery bottling. Glenmorangie belongs to Moët Hennessy within the LVMH group.
