This limited New Year edition pairs King George V with distinctive packaging designed by Angel Chen. The Shanghai designer decorates the box in vivid red and gold with the Peng, a giant bird from Chinese mythology. Its soaring flight symbolises great achievements and a promising future. The edition was released for Chinese New Year 2023, the Year of the Rabbit.

The blend brings together whiskies from Scottish distilleries that operated during the reign of King George V. These include rare stocks from Port Ellen on Islay, whose smoke gives the whisky its coastal character. The blend also contains malts from the Highlands and Speyside. Spice and dried fruit shape its flavour, complemented by vanilla, dark chocolate, toffee and roasted nuts. The bottle contains 0.7 litres at an alcohol content of 43%.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Sweet and smoky aromas from Port Ellen initially lead the nose. Orange, raisins and figs then emerge alongside cinnamon.
• Palate: On the palate, pronounced spice and dried fruit combine with vanilla, dark chocolate, toffee and roasted nuts.
• Finish: The long finish is rich and creamy. Port Ellen's maritime smoke builds as the finish unfolds.

Distillery/Bottler:

The story of Johnnie Walker began in 1820 in a grocery shop in Kilmarnock. There, John Walker sold whisky and created his own blends for his customers. His son Alexander took over the business in 1857 and expanded it beyond the local market. The varied range of tea, dried fruit and spices inspired him as he developed the first commercial blend, Old Highland Whisky.

With King George V, John Walker & Sons continues this history of blending, bringing different stocks of Scottish whisky together in a single composition. The range commemorates the Royal Warrant granted to John Walker & Sons on 1 January 1934. Angel Chen contributes the artistic design for the New Year edition.
