Laphroaig PX Cask is part of the Global Travel Retail range and undergoes three stages of maturation. The Islay Single Malt first matures in American ex-bourbon Barrels, then in small Quarter Casks modelled on those used in the 19th century. A finish in Pedro Ximénez Sherry Butts completes the process. The Quarter Casks contribute to its velvety texture; this sequence does not amount to full maturation exclusively in sherry casks.

The powerful smoky character remains clearly discernible alongside the sherry sweetness. Seaweed and ginger complement the fruity and spicy impressions. A little water brings out nutty marzipan aromas. This version contains 1 litre, is bottled at 48% and comes with gift packaging.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, sweetness and smoke mingle with sultanas, raisins and liquorice.
• Palate: On the palate, peat smoke combines with layers of oak and a heavy, sweet sherry note.
• Finish: The long, dry finish reveals strong peat smoke and a dense impression of sherry and oak.

Distillery/Bottler:

Alexander and Donald Johnston founded Laphroaig on the coast of Islay in 1815. The Kilbride Stream runs directly beside the distillery, with the island's peatlands also nearby. Laphroaig continues to use its original kilns and now has seven stills. For PX Cask, malted barley is dried with peat smoke and then distilled using water from the Kilbride Stream. The whisky is an official Laphroaig bottling.
