Bourbon and sherry casks shape this smoky island whisky from Tobermory Distillery. Ledaig 18 matures for a total of 18 years and receives a finish in Spanish sherry casks. Sweet and floral impressions meet powerful smoke and maritime saltiness.

The whisky is bottled at 46.3%, without chill filtration or added colouring. The 0.7-litre bottle comes in gift packaging. Ledaig 18 is part of the distillery's core range and was named Whisky of the Year 2023 by The Whisky Exchange.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, fruity sherry notes combine with pronounced smoke. Phenolic and slightly tarry tones accompany seaweed, dried chilli flakes and black pepper. A delicate sweet oak note rounds out the spicy bouquet.
• Palate: The whisky is powerful on the palate, with sherry, herbs and smoke. Orange peel, coffee, tobacco and white pepper add to the flavour, while a hint of sea salt lends a maritime accent.
• Finish: The long finish is intensely smoky. A delicate liquorice note and salty sea spray linger.

Distillery/Bottler:

Tobermory Distillery is located in the harbour town of Tobermory on Scotland's Isle of Mull and was founded in 1798. It draws its water from the nearby Gearr Abhainn stream. The same distillery produces two distinct styles of single malt: Tobermory from unpeated malt, and the peaty, smoky Ledaig.

Master Distiller Ian MacMillan played an important role in reviving the island's traditional smoky style. He resumed Ledaig production in 1996, after the distillery had reopened in 1990 following its most recent period of closure. The 18-year-old Ledaig continues this return to the peated Hebridean style.
