Special Features:

Nine months of additional maturation in a small ex-sherry Octave shape this Miltonduff from Duncan Taylor’s The Octave series. The Single Malt was distilled in 2011, initially matured in oak casks and was bottled in 2024 from cask 8343679 after a total of 13 years. Alongside two other releases, its finish was among the longest in the selection for Germany at the time. This single-cask release, issued exclusively for Germany, comprises 89 bottles of 0.7 litres each. Duncan Taylor bottled the whisky at its cask strength of 54.8%, without colouring or chill filtration.

The whisky combines sweet cake and honey notes with dark oak. Fruity and floral impressions complement its spicy side, while sherry fruit remains present in the long finish.

Tasting Notes:

  • Nose: The nose reveals sweet lemon cake with plenty of icing, blossom honey and dark oak. Prunes and tobacco add aromas in the background.
  • Palate: The whisky is balanced on the palate, combining rum-soaked raisins, orange blossom and apple compote. Whipped cream, warm raspberries and oak spice add further notes.
  • Finish: Sherry fruit and delicate oak spice linger in the long finish.

Distillery/Bottler:

Miltonduff lies outside Elgin in Speyside. A licensed distillery was established on the site of a former mill in 1824. Its malt is an important component of Ballantine’s and thus also plays a significant role in blended Scotch. This single-cask release comes from independent bottler Duncan Taylor.

Duncan Taylor Scotch Whisky Ltd was founded in 1938 as a cask trader. The family-owned company has its own cask warehouses, a cooperage and facilities for marrying and bottling whisky in Huntly. For The Octave, already matured whiskies undergo an additional maturation period in small sherry casks with a capacity of around 50 litres. These small casks have a greater internal wood surface area relative to the volume of liquid, resulting in more intensive wood contact during the additional maturation.
