James Henderson founded Pulteney Distillery in 1826 in Wick, a harbour town in northern Scotland. Its water comes from Loch Hempriggs. After mashing, the distillery ferments the wort for around 60 hours in stainless-steel tanks. Its unusual wash still has a flat top; the vapour is then condensed in a traditional worm-tub condenser. The warehouses stand close to the North Sea. Inver House Distillers acquired the distillery in 1995 and has belonged to the ThaiBev group since 2006; since 2008, Inver House has formed its Scottish whisky production arm within International Beverage.
