Special Features:

Five Refill Sherry Butts shaped this long-matured Port Askaig. The Islay Single Malt was distilled in the 1960s and matured for 45 years. Refill means that the casks had previously been used to mature whisky. For the final year of maturation, the whisky from the five casks was brought together and divided between three Sherry Butts.

The long maturation resulted in a natural cask strength of 40.8%. The whisky is neither chill-filtered nor coloured. The bottle contains 0.7 litres and comes in a wooden box.

This unpeated bottling reveals a fruity, herbaceous side of Islay. Ripe mango and papaya meet mint, earthy spice notes and brown sugar. The distillery of origin remains undisclosed.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Camphor and menthol emerge first. Malt and oak follow, alongside pronounced, sweet fruitiness with tropical fruit, ripe apples and pears. With a little time, green notes and a light saltiness develop.
• Palate: The whisky feels full-bodied and creamy on the palate. Sugary sweetness and fruit combine with delicate green notes, gentle spice and a pinch of salt. Citrus notes, toasted spices and a light touch of oak add to the flavour.
• Finish: The finish is very long and remains lightly fruity throughout. A soft, creamy oak note accompanies it. Cut grass, mint and basil emerge towards the end. Orange blossom and warm spice notes add further accents to the herbaceous finish.

Distillery/Bottler:

Port Askaig is a whisky brand belonging to independent bottler Elixir Distillers, launched in 2009. It takes its name from the small port on Islay's north-east coast. Situated on the Sound of Islay, Port Askaig has long been a gateway to the island for trade and travellers.

Master Blender Oliver Chilton selects mature whiskies and brings them together to create the bottlings in the range. Port Askaig brings Single Malts from different, undisclosed Islay distilleries under one brand name; the distillery of origin can vary between bottlings.
