Rosebank Unity is the sixth and penultimate release in Elixir Distillers’ seven-part series The Roses. It brings together Rosebank malt triple-distilled in 1990 and 1991 and matured for 21 years in a combination of bourbon and Madeira casks. Released in 2022, the edition comprises 840 bottles at 52.7%.

The Madeira spice adds depth to the light spirit. Sweetish, toasty wood notes complement its floral, grassy character and pronounced citrus notes.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose is distinctly floral, recalling white flowers and a fresh meadow. Ginger, lemon and grapefruit peel complement these impressions. Butter and wax then emerge, accompanied by slightly darker almond notes. Grain, linseed oil and a light chalk note add further nuances.
• Palate: Grapefruit and lemon peel lead on the palate, accompanied by sunflower oil, lemon balm, dry grass, pine needles and chalk. The whisky feels light, but gains depth from the Madeira spice. Sweetish, toasty wood and finely ground grain also come through.
• Finish: The medium-length finish feels light and fresh, with lingering peppery spice and green citrus notes.

Distillery/Bottler:

Rosebank is located in Falkirk on the Union Canal. In 1840, James Rankine established a distillery there on the site of the Camelon maltings, reviving the Rosebank name. The canal initially helped the distillery develop, but the location later made access difficult for modern lorries and equipment. The distillery closed in 1993. The whisky used for Unity dates from 1990 and 1991, before that closure. Rosebank used triple distillation, which contributed to its light, floral style.

Elixir Distillers is the bottler of Unity. For The Roses, casks were selected from a stock of fifteen Rosebank casks, and the whiskies they contained were married and bottled. These were among the last privately held Rosebank reserves. Released between 2016 and 2023, the series comprises seven editions, each aged 21 years. Their names come from rose varieties, and each release explores a different aspect of the distillery’s character.
