Special Features:

Manuka wood gives Anthem its New Zealand smoke character. Locally grown barley is smoked with Manuka wood chips rather than peat, before the whisky matures for three years in new French oak. Smoked apple, walnut spice, cider fruit and sweet hay shape this combination of wood smoke and cask maturation. Anthem is bottled at 46% with its natural colour and without chill filtration.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, applewood shavings mingle with notes of Calvados and green tea.
• Palate: On the palate, spicy walnut notes meet cider apple and sweet hay.
• Finish: The medium-length finish reveals apple syrup, brown sugar, molasses and liquorice root.

Distillery/Bottler:

Anthem is part of Scapegrace's single malt range. The current Scapegrace distillery stands beside Lake Dunstan in Central Otago, on the 45th parallel south. Its cask storage, warehouse, operational facilities and headquarters were completed there in 2022; the distillery began operating in June 2024.

Scapegrace oversees production from grain to bottle. The barley comes from the Canterbury Plains, while the water comes from the Clutha River, which is fed by glacial runoff from the Southern Alps. The site's hot summers and cold winters also informed its selection: these pronounced seasonal temperature changes influence the maturation of the whiskies.
