Autumn Walk combines maturation in first-fill ex-bourbon casks with an unusual finishing treatment using oak cask ends. This 14-year-old Singleton of Glen Ord is part of the Diageo Special Releases 2024. A portion of the batch received an additional finish using cask ends made from Pyrenean and Spanish oak. Master Blender Craig Wilson deliberately sought a drier, spicier character than the distillery's classic house style.

Alongside orange, orchard fruit, grassy freshness and fragrant aromatic notes emerge. Vanilla and toffee add to the sweetness, while the creamy texture contrasts clearly with the growing peppery spice. Even with a little water, the whisky remains spicy on the finish. It is bottled at 54.7% alcohol, without chill filtration or added colouring.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose is mild and gentle. The aroma initially recalls an orange cream filling, developing into orange sponge cake with a hint of vanilla.
• Palate: On the palate, the creamy texture distinctly coats the teeth. The sweetness initially centres on the middle of the palate before the flavour becomes tart and bitter, with a pronounced bitter orange peel note. The whisky then becomes drier and develops fiery peppery spice.
• Finish: The finish is long, warming and spicy, while the aftertaste leaves a cooling sensation in the mouth. The spice persists with a little water.

Distillery/Bottler:

Glen Ord was founded in 1838 on the Black Isle in the northern Highlands and is situated near Muir of Ord. Thomas MacKenzie chose the site on his family's land. Today, the distillery belongs to Diageo and produces the malt whisky for The Singleton of Glen Ord.

Glen Ord uses long fermentation and slow distillation to support the malt's balanced, smooth underlying character. The distillery also has its own maltings, which supplies malt to other distilleries. Autumn Walk was released as an official bottling in Diageo's Special Releases series.
