Special Features:

Starward Left-Field is shaped by maturation entirely in French oak casks previously used for Australian red wine. The casks come from wineries within a day's drive of the distillery in Melbourne. This gives the Australian single malt its red wine cask influence throughout maturation, rather than through a finish alone. The edition developed for Europe is bottled at 40% in 0.7-litre bottles.

Left-Field combines a fruit-led character with subtle spice. It can be enjoyed neat or in an Old Fashioned or a Highball.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose reveals bright tropical fruit notes with an estery character. A hint of blackcurrant and spice complements them.
• Palate: The tropical fruit notes feel soft on the palate. Red apple skin, fresh blackberries and a hint of vanilla add to them.
• Finish: The finish is delicate and remains fruit-led.

Distillery/Bottler:

The Starward Distillery is located in Port Melbourne. It sources grain and Australian red wine casks from within roughly a day's drive. Melbourne's changeable climate also plays a role in maturation: Temperature fluctuations cause the cask wood to expand and contract repeatedly, encouraging interaction between the whisky and the cask. Proximity to wine regions and local maturation conditions are therefore integral to the distillery's approach. Left-Field is an official bottling of the Starward brand.
