Tidal Churn is the eight-year-old Talisker in the Diageo Special Releases 2024. This edition was finished in Stone-Spun casks: stones and water remove their original char layer before the wood is lightly toasted again. This treatment allows more fruit and vanilla to emerge behind the powerful maritime smoke. The small bottle contains 0.2 litres; the whisky is bottled at a cask strength of 58.7%.

Pear and apple provide the bright fruit notes, complemented by vanilla. Sea breeze, seashells and seaweed contribute the maritime character. Pepper and spices connect these impressions with Talisker's distinctive spiciness.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose is gentle and dry overall. After a restrained opening, fresh, slightly maritime impressions of sea breeze, rock pools and seashells unfold. Pear and apple add to the bouquet, accompanied by light peat smoke. Notes of vanilla cake become more apparent over time.
• Palate: On the palate, the whisky is very smooth, mouth-filling and creamy. Its powerful flavour begins sweet and turns salty towards the mid-palate. Apple notes complement the creamy sweetness, while warming peppery spice develops and becomes increasingly prominent.
• Finish: The finish is long and develops pronounced Talisker spice. Persistent smokiness accompanies the peppery aftertaste. Szechuan pepper leaves a cooling sensation in the mouth, which becomes stronger with a little water.

Distillery/Bottler:

Hugh and Kenneth MacAskill founded Talisker in 1830 in Carbost on Loch Harport. It remains the oldest operating distillery on the Isle of Skye and embodies a smoky, peppery and maritime island style. Distillation takes place in traditional copper pot stills. Talisker belongs to Diageo's Scotch portfolio; Tidal Churn is an official bottling within the Special Releases.
