Special Features:

Two stages of cask maturation shape Tamnavulin Double Cask: the whisky first matures in American ex-bourbon casks, then receives a finish in previously used sherry casks. Launched in 2016, it was the first release in the distillery’s current range. This distillery bottling contains 0.7 litres of whisky at 40% alcohol and comes in gift packaging.

Its fruit character ranges from apple and a slightly tart jam note to pear, creamy peach and pineapple. Orange peel also comes through. Toffee, honey and marzipan accompany the fruit, with a hint of demerara sugar on the palate. The sherry casks add to this gentle, fruit-led style without overshadowing it.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose offers warm apple, toffee and honey alongside marzipan and a slightly tart jam note. Fresh orange peel also emerges.
• Palate: The whisky is fresh and gentle on the palate, with pear, creamy peach and pineapple meeting a hint of demerara sugar.
• Finish: Sandalwood returns in the finish with a gentle dryness. Cocoa nibs linger alongside walnut and toasted almond; cherry jam and candied redcurrants develop later.

Distillery/Bottler:

Tamnavulin distillery opened in 1966 in the Speyside village of Tomnavoulin, on the site of a historic wool carding mill. It resumed production in 2000 after closing in 1995 and underwent extensive refurbishment in 2007. In 2010, the distillery changed the shape of its stills to produce a richer new-make spirit for maturation in wine casks. Tamnavulin is part of Whyte & Mackay’s whisky portfolio and bottles Double Cask as its own single malt.
