Heavily charred oak casks shape Old St. Croix Black Barrel Navy Spiced. This spiced blend belongs to the Royal Danish Navy collection and draws on the same cask selection as the Navy series. Its base consists of distillates from the Caribbean and Central America. Heavy charring of the casks helps create its soft, rounded character.

For this bottling, the Master Blender worked with experienced bartenders. The result is a full-bodied, intensely spicy blend with dark sweetness that retains its aromatic presence in mixed drinks. It works well in a Cuba Libre or with ginger beer and lime, for example, but can also be served neat or over ice. It is bottled at 40% alcohol in a 0.7-litre bottle.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, mocha and walnuts meet roasted figs. A lightly smoky oak note adds to the aroma.
• Palate: On the palate, Christmas spices combine with dark chocolate to create a bold, rich flavour.
• Finish: Mocha returns on the finish, gradually fading away.

Distillery/Bottler:

Old St. Croix traces its roots to Danish pharmacist Albert Heinrich Riise, who opened a pharmacy on St. Thomas in the Danish West Indies in 1838. There, he initially used alcohol from locally grown sugar cane to make medicinal products before developing his rum business. The Old St. Croix brand name was created for international trade. In 1893, the brand received a gold medal at the World's Fair in Chicago. Following the revival of the name within the Non Plus Ultra collection in 2021, the A.H. Riise brand was renamed Old St. Croix in 2025.

Blending matured distillates is central to today's Royal Danish Navy collection. Casks are selected from distilleries in the Caribbean and Central America for this purpose. The series recalls the historical connection with the Danish navy, which was among Riise's early customers. Black Barrel Navy Spiced is bottled by Old St. Croix Spirits APS.
