Special Features:

Jose Cuervo Tradicional Reposado combines agave flavour with the influence of a short maturation in oak casks. Made from 100% blue Weber agave, it rests in wood for at least two months. Maturation takes place in new, heavily charred American oak casks and lasts approximately two to four months. Bottled at 40% alcohol, it is offered here in a 0.7-litre bottle.

The agaves used for Tradicional come from family-owned plantations. Their hearts are cooked in masonry ovens for 36 to 40 hours. A four-stage roller mill then extracts the sugar-rich juice. This ferments with a house yeast for 40 to 50 hours in closed stainless steel tanks before being distilled twice in copper pot stills.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, agave and herbal notes mingle with oak. Vanilla, caramel and hints of toasted bread complement the aroma.
• Palate: Cooked agave and stewed tropical fruit take centre stage on the palate. Vanilla, clove, cinnamon and toffee accompany them and remain evident in the flavour.
• Finish: The finish is warming and spicy.

Distillery/Bottler:

Jose Cuervo's history dates back to 1758, when José Antonio de Cuervo y Valdés was granted land to grow agave. Royal permission to produce and sell tequila followed in 1795. La Rojeña distillery was founded in 1812 and remains operational today. Tradicional and Reserva de la Familia are produced there.

Cuervo adapts its production methods to each product line. For Tradicional, it uses masonry ovens, roller mills and copper pot stills. Other lines are produced in a separate facility using a different juice extraction method and continuous column distillation. Tradicional's production therefore differs from that of the house's other product lines.
