The Sea Shepherd special edition links Padre Azul's bourbon cask maturation with a specific marine conservation project. Every bottle sold supports Sea Shepherd's work. The focus is Operation Milagro, which protects the vaquita, a rare porpoise species threatened by illegal gillnets.

The reposado is made from 100% blue Weber agave and rests for at least eight months in selected bourbon oak casks. Maturation gives it its pale yellow colour and adds delicate vanilla notes to its agave character. Its aromatic range also includes raw and cooked agave as well as fruit compote. The special edition is offered at 40% in a bottle containing 0.7 litres.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, delicate vanilla and caramel notes mingle with roasted agave and a restrained oak note.
• Palate: The tequila is smooth and balanced on the palate. Honey and almonds are accompanied by delicate spice notes.
• Finish: The finish lingers, leaving a warm, gentle sensation.

Distillery/Bottler:

Padre Azul is distilled in Amatitán in the Mexican state of Jalisco. The brand uses only blue Weber agaves, which grow for eight to ten years before harvesting. During production, the agaves are steam-cooked for 24 to 48 hours in mamposterías, traditional masonry ovens; the residual heat is then used for a further 24 hours.

Fermentation lasts 72 to 96 hours and takes place spontaneously with yeasts naturally present on the agaves and in the air. This is followed by double distillation. While the blanco is bottled without cask maturation, the reposado gains its mature character from ageing in previously used bourbon oak casks. The American oak contributes to the vanilla notes.
