For this Single Malt, Tomintoul combines maturation in bourbon casks with a finishing period in Merlot wine casks from Bordeaux. Master Distiller Robert Fleming selected whiskies from American oak ex-bourbon barrels. The whiskies were then married and finished in hand-selected Merlot casks from the French wine region.

This small-batch bottling is part of the Cask Finish Collection and carries no age statement. Its sweet, fruity character combines with pastry, spice and nutty coffee notes. The whisky is not smoky, has an alcohol content of 40% and comes in a bottle containing 0.7 litres, presented in a tube.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, fruit blossom and summer berries meet cinnamon buns. Acacia honey and candied fruit peel complete the aromatic picture.
• Palate: The palate offers sweet impressions of sour cherry jam, English summer berry pudding and redcurrant jam. Tobacco spice and cocoa powder add further notes.
• Finish: Baking spices and cappuccino foam linger in the finish before almond pastries and toasted pecans emerge.

Distillery/Bottler:

Founded in 1965, Tomintoul Distillery is located in Speyside within the Cairngorms National Park, close to the village of the same name. It uses soft water from the Ballantruan spring and tall stills in its production. These two elements help underpin the distillery's gentle, balanced character.

Master Distiller Robert Fleming comes from a family now in its fourth generation of distilling whisky in Speyside. For the Cask Finish Collection, he combines maturation in American ex-bourbon casks with selected wine and spirit casks of various origins. For the Merlot release, he chose wine casks from Bordeaux.
