Special Features:

Finishing in Portuguese Tawny Port barriques gives this small-batch bottling its fruit-led character. Master Distiller Robert Fleming selected Tomintoul whiskies that had first matured in American oak ex-bourbon barrels. The whiskies were then married and given a further maturation in selected Tawny Port barriques.

This bottling is part of Tomintoul's Cask Finish Collection, which uses different wine and spirit casks for finishing. It is bottled without an age statement at 40% alcohol. This single malt is not smoky, contains no added colouring and comes in a tube containing a 0.7-litre bottle.

Tasting Notes:

  • Nose: On the nose, berries and blackberry jam mingle with dark chocolate. Nutmeg and cherry liqueur complete the bouquet.
  • Palate: The palate reveals blackcurrants and blueberries, with hints of Black Forest gâteau. Oak spice and mocha add to these flavours.
  • Finish: Maraschino cherries and thick-cut orange marmalade linger on the finish. These fruit notes gradually give way to lasting notes of clove and cinnamon.

Distillery/Bottler:

Tomintoul is located in Speyside within the Cairngorms National Park, near the village of the same name, the highest in the Scottish Highlands. The distillery has been operating since 1965. It uses soft water from the Ballantruan Spring and distils in tall stills; both elements underpin its soft, balanced house style.

Robert Fleming has led the distillery since 1990 and is a fourth-generation whisky distiller from Speyside. Alongside producing the spirit, his work includes selecting suitable maturation casks. For the Cask Finish Collection, he combines maturation in ex-bourbon casks with subsequent finishing in selected wine or spirit casks.
