Tomintoul Tempranillo Wine Cask Finish is made from selected single malt whiskies matured in American oak ex-bourbon casks, which are married before further maturation in Spanish Tempranillo wine casks. Master Distiller Robert Fleming creates this bottling in small batches. It belongs to the Contemporary Cask Finish Collection, a range of cask-finished bottlings without an age statement, and is bottled at 40%.

Its fruit-led character brings together jam and cooked fruit with caramel sweetness and pastry notes. Pepper, ginger and toasted oak provide spicy accents. In the finish, chocolate and raspberry gradually give way to darker coffee and chestnut notes.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, strawberry jam and cooked fruit mingle with caramelised toffee and syrup-soaked sponge cake. Vanilla and chamomile complete the aromas.
• Palate: On the palate, mixed berry compote, brandy snaps and custard-filled pastries meet white pepper, toasted oak and cappuccino.
• Finish: Dark chocolate, raspberry and ginger preserved in syrup linger in the finish. These impressions gradually develop into espresso and roasted chestnut.

Distillery/Bottler:

Tomintoul Distillery produces this single malt in Speyside, within the Cairngorms National Park. Founded in 1965, the distillery takes its name from the nearby village of Tomintoul. It uses water from the Ballantruan spring and tall stills, which contribute to its gentle, balanced whisky style.

The distillery has belonged to Angus Dundee Distillers since August 2000. Master Distiller Robert Fleming comes from a family of Speyside distillers spanning four generations. For this official distillery bottling, he oversees the selection of bourbon cask-matured whiskies, their marrying and the subsequent finish in selected Tempranillo wine casks.
