Special Features:

Boann Marsala Cask matures in heavily charred ex-bourbon barrels of American oak before finishing in Superiore and Fine Marsala butts of French oak. The 200-litre bourbon barrels come from Brown-Forman, and the Marsala butts from Sicily’s Cantine de Vinci. Boann combines the vanilla and honey notes of the initial maturation with citrus fruit and spice from the finish.

Boann makes this whiskey from locally grown Irish grains: malted and unmalted barley, oats and rye. The bottling belongs to the single pot still range introduced in 2024. It contains no added colour, is not chill-filtered and comes at 47% alcohol in a 0.7-litre bottle with gift packaging.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, delicate spice and resinous bark mingle with toasted orange, freshly cut grass and floral honey.
• Palate: The whiskey feels rich and viscous on the palate: sweet marmalade comes first, followed by peppermint and oak spice.
• Finish: The long finish fades with cinnamon and clove.

Distillery/Bottler:

The family-run Boann Distillery is located in Drogheda in the Boyne Valley. Patrick and Marie Cooney founded it with their children; in 2019, the family realised its long-held plan to make its own single pot still whiskey in the Boyne Valley. Harvest Distilling and Brewing Limited is behind the Boann Distillery brand.

Boann’s brewing equipment is designed to mash unmalted grain, using both a mash vessel and a lauter tun. The distillery processes grain from the surrounding area and distils in copper pot stills. This combination of local ingredients and equipment purpose-built for single pot still production defines its approach.
