Special Features:

This single pot still whiskey first matures in 250-litre American oak Oloroso hogsheads from Bodegas Garvey. Boann makes the spirit from malted and unmalted barley, oats and rye. It is then finished in Pedro Ximénez butts from Málaga, each holding more than 500 litres. These casks spent over 60 years in a PX solera system, and some are made of chestnut wood.

The bottling combines pronounced sherry notes and fruity sweetness with a savoury, peppery counterpoint. Boann bottles the whiskey at 47% alcohol, without chill filtration or added colouring.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose offers raisins and figs alongside molasses and sweet caramel, with a hint of leather complementing the fruit notes.
• Palate: On the palate, honey syrup and dark chocolate meet a savoury note of crispy bacon and cracked white pepper.
• Finish: The finish is long and rich, with lingering earthy caramel notes.

Distillery/Bottler:

The independent Boann Distillery belongs to the Cooney family and is located in Drogheda in the Boyne Valley. Patrick and Marie Cooney founded it with their children, and distillation began there in 2019. Boann mills and mashes the grain on site, distils the whiskey and matures it there. Its equipment is designed specifically to mash unmalted grain for single pot still whiskey.

Boann also distils and bottles this PX Cask Edition itself. The Oloroso hogsheads come from Bodegas Garvey; the Andalusian cooperage R. L. Rodriguez sourced the historic PX solera butts. The edition was released in June 2024 alongside Madeira and Marsala bottlings as part of the core single pot still range.
