Special Features:

The stout cask finish connects this Fercullen with the brewing craft of O Brother Brewing in County Wicklow. In spring 2022, Powerscourt supplied casks to the neighbouring brewery, where they were filled with Opus One Stout. Once returned to Powerscourt, they were used to finish the Single Grain. While an initial bottling was released after just six months, this thirteen-year-old edition spent a total of 17 months in three stout beer casks.

For this edition, the whiskey from the three casks was married together; the release comprises 800 bottles. Bottling at cask strength at 56.6% underlines its chocolate, nutty and roasted character. The whiskey is not chill-filtered and contains colouring.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, dark chocolate and chilli combine with lime and grapefruit. Hazelnut and malt add to the aroma.
• Palate: On the palate, the whiskey evokes chocolate ganache, buttery popcorn and fruit bread.
• Finish: Cocoa beans, citrus-led hop notes and roasted malt linger on the finish.

Distillery/Bottler:

The Powerscourt Distillery stands on the Powerscourt Estate in Enniskerry, County Wicklow. It occupies a former mill building dating from the 1730s. Whiskey has been distilled here since 2018. The Scottish company Forsyths supplied three pot stills for the distillery, allowing Powerscourt to produce both double- and triple-distilled Malt and Pot Still Whiskey.

When establishing the Fercullen brand, Powerscourt also drew on already matured whiskeys from other producers. Noel Sweeney was involved with the distillery from the outset and used his connections with the Cooley Distillery to source these stocks. The Single Grain used in this collaboration was also sourced and then finished at Powerscourt in casks previously filled with stout. It is therefore distinct from the younger Malt Whiskeys distilled on site.
