Special Features:

King's Gambit, the first release from the Finvara brand, combines grain whiskey with spirits distilled from malted and unmalted barley. The blend is triple-distilled and matures for several years in ex-bourbon and sherry casks before being bottled at 43%.

Alongside the fruity and spicy tasting notes are chocolate, malt and honey. Subtle sherry notes, caramel, vanilla and toasted wood complement its creamy character. The name draws on Finvara, a figure from Irish legend, and a chess motif that also shapes the bottle's design.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose offers red fruit, toffee and pine. Orchard fruits, honey and soft malt follow, accompanied by green leaves and a light hint of smoke.
• Palate: On the palate, candied fruit and marzipan mingle with winter spices, oak and toasted bread. Vanilla cream accompanies baked apple, nectarine and apricot.
• Finish: Sandalwood lingers in the warming finish.

Distillery/Bottler:

Master Distiller David F. Hynes developed King's Gambit with his team at Great Northern Distillery in Dundalk. Since 2015, the distillery has operated pot stills and column stills there, producing grain, malt and pot-still spirits, among others. It also handles blending and maturation for brand partners. Mack Brands GmbH owns the Finvara brand.
