Special Features:

The Madeira finish gives this Irish Single Grain its distinctive cask character. The whiskey first matured for just over three years in charred ex-bourbon casks, then for six months in ex-Oloroso sherry casks. Finally, it went into a single cask that had previously held Canteiro-aged Madeira. In this method of Madeira maturation, the island’s warm climate shapes the wine; Glendalough used a cask that had held it for the finish.

The bottles in this single-cask release are numbered and bear cask number RC 1307. Gentle cereal sweetness combines with sultanas, raisins and tropical fruit; dark stone fruit, vanilla, pepper and oak spice complement the wine-like Madeira influence. The whiskey is bottled at 42%, is not chill-filtered and contains colouring.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose brings sultanas and raisins, alongside mango, pineapple, orange zest and marmalade.
• Palate: On the palate, the whiskey is lively and rounded. Raisins, dark cherries and plums combine with vanilla and sweet cereal, with peppery spice alongside them.
• Finish: The lingering finish leaves dark stone fruit, oak spice and a light nutty note.

Distillery/Bottler:

Glendalough Irish Whiskey Limited is behind the Glendalough range and is based in County Wicklow. Founded in 2011, the brand has close ties to the Wicklow Mountains. It also works with other Irish distilleries for its whiskey range. Glendalough uses American white oak as a starting point for maturation, followed by finishes in other types of cask. The Madeira cask used for this release continues that approach.
