Grain and malt whiskeys from Irish distilleries make up this blend. The components matured entirely in ex-bourbon casks; Niche Drinks marries and bottles the whiskey in Derry. The bottling has an alcohol content of 40%.

Alongside the fruity and sweet impressions are hints of ginger biscuits, cinnamon, baked apple and nutmeg. The name The Quiet Man honours John Mulgrew, who worked as a bartender for more than 50 years and was known for his discretion.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Butterscotch and a sweet, creamy sherbet note appear first on the nose. They are followed by chocolate with a crunchy honeycomb centre, pear and yellow apple. Vanilla is also perceptible.
• Palate: The whiskey feels soft and smooth on the palate. Vanilla and honey mingle with toasted oak, cinnamon, apple and pineapple.
• Finish: The finish fades gently with a light peppery spice. Honey, vanilla, shortbread and a hint of black tea linger.

Niche Drinks Co. Ltd. is based in Derry, where it has made products including cream liqueurs and ready-to-drink cocktails since 1983. For The Quiet Man, the company sources grain and malt whiskeys from Irish distilleries and handles their further maturation, marrying and bottling.

Ciaran Mulgrew named the brand after his father, John. The whiskey takes its name from the discretion John showed over his many years behind the bar.
