Special Features:

This single-cask release from Shortcross matured for at least five years in a first-fill ex-bourbon cask. The single malt was made exclusively from Irish malted barley and double-distilled. The whiskey combines vanilla sweetness and malt with fruity impressions and a spicy finish.

During maturation, just over 8% was lost through evaporation—the so-called angels’ share. The whiskey from the cask yielded fewer than 250 bottles, each containing 0.7 litres at 61.5% alcohol. It is non-chill-filtered and derives its colour entirely from cask maturation.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, vanilla and malt combine with toasted wood and physalis.
• Palate: On the palate, sweet vanilla and malt meet bitter almond and grilled pineapple.
• Finish: The finish is long-lasting and leaves spicy notes.

Distillery/Bottler:

Shortcross comes from Rademon Estate Distillery in County Down, Northern Ireland. Fiona and David Boyd-Armstrong founded the distillery in 2012 on the historic Rademon Estate. The brand name refers to the nearby village of Crossgar, whose Irish name means “short cross”.

The distillery has been distilling its own whiskey since 2015. Its first batches were produced in a copper pot still with a capacity of 450 litres; a larger installation was added in early 2018. When developing its whiskeys, the distillery explores the interaction between grain composition, fermentation, distillation and cask selection. Water from its own well, alongside Irish malt and yeast, forms the foundation of its single malt production.
