Teeling Amber Ale Cask brings whiskey making and Dublin brewing together through a cask partnership. For this Small Batch Collaboration, Teeling passed former rum casks to DOT Brew after they had been used to marry its Small Batch Whiskey. The brewery matured a traditional Irish Red Ale in them, creating its Amber Ale through cask ageing. The casks then returned to Teeling, where they were refilled with Small Batch Irish Whiskey for over twelve months of further maturation.

The beer-cask finish adds caramel pastry, hoppy citrus and pine notes to the whiskey, while malty notes linger in the finish. Bottled at 46%, it is neither chill-filtered nor coloured. The 0.7-litre bottle comes in white-and-orange gift packaging.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Spicy malted barley leads on the nose. Lemon zest and caramelised almonds complement the aromas.
• Palate: On the palate, baked apple and mandarin combine with cinnamon pastries and a hint of vanilla. Woody accents complement the fruity and sweet impressions.
• Finish: Caramel, almonds and malty pastry linger in the balanced finish.

Distillery/Bottler:

The Teeling family's history in Dublin whiskey making dates back to 1782, when Walter Teeling opened a small distillery on Marrowbone Lane. Jack and Stephen Teeling began building the present-day whiskey company in 2012. In 2015, they opened their new distillery near the family's historic site in the Liberties district. It was Dublin's first newly built distillery in more than 125 years.

Through its Small Batch Collaborations, Teeling explores how different cask partners influence its whiskey. In the collaboration with DOT Brew, the casks do more than pass between two businesses: they move from whiskey maturation to beer ageing and back again. DOT Brew works with cask ageing and beer blending. These practices underpin the Amber Ale finish.
