Special Features:

The XO Caribbean expression combines Tullamore D.E.W.'s three-part blend of grain, malt and pot still whiskey with a finish in first-fill XO rum casks. These casks previously held Demerara rum. This gives the smooth, triple-distilled Irish whiskey tropical fruit notes and caramel sweetness, complemented by hints of dates and raisins. It is bottled at 43%.

Trials with different Caribbean rum styles preceded the selection of the Demerara rum casks. The finish also honours Irish emigrants who contributed to the development of Caribbean rum in the 17th century. The cask selection thus connects a distinct flavour influence with the expression's historical reference.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Vanilla and oak form the foundation of the aroma. Citrus, ripe banana and a subtle spice note emerge above them.
• Palate: The whiskey is full-bodied and creamy on the palate. Caramel and banana mingle with vanilla, wood and citrus, as well as dates and raisins.
• Finish: The long, sweet finish leaves lingering notes of banana and caramel.

Distillery/Bottler:

Tullamore D.E.W. takes its name from the Irish town of Tullamore, where its distilling history began in 1829. The initials D.E.W. commemorate Daniel Edmund Williams: he joined the distillery as a young stable boy and later became its manager. His name remains part of the brand today.

Today's distillery in Tullamore brings grain processing, mashing, fermentation and distillation together with maturation and bottling at one site. When developing XO Caribbean, the whiskey team tested the influence of different rum casks before selecting first-fill XO casks that had previously held Demerara rum.
