Special Features:
The Maritime Sherry Cask is a triple-distilled Irish single malt produced in small batches. It is made from Irish malted barley and water from Mullaghmesha, initially matured in first-fill bourbon casks and then finished in sherry casks from Bodegas Barón. West Cork bottles it at 46% in a 0.7-litre bottle; the whiskey is neither chill-filtered nor coloured.
The hand-blown, spherical Maritime bottle reflects the founders’ maritime background. Its offset spout is designed to provide a smoother pour. In sensory terms, the bottling combines prune, fig, sherry and vanilla with a sweet opening that gradually becomes dry and spicy.
Tasting Notes:
Distillery/Bottler:
West Cork Distillers produces and bottles the Maritime Sherry Cask itself. The company began in 2003 in a small room behind co-founder Denis McCarthy’s home, moved to Skibbereen in 2014 and opened its new distillery on Marsh Road in 2020.
Distillation, cask storage and bottling are brought together at the Skibbereen site. West Cork operates its own stills, seven warehouses and five bottling lines there.
