In this Yamazaki expression, Islay peat meets the distillery’s characteristic sweetness, to which its water and maturation methods contribute. The limited edition thus broadens the exploration of production diversity: alongside cask selection, the 2024 series also focuses on raw materials and peat.

Gentle smoke combines with a hint of biscuit. Brown sugar and bitter orange create a sweet, citrus contrast, complemented by malt and lemon zest. The whisky was bottled in 2024 at 48% and has a warm, sweetly smoky finish.

Distillery/Bottler:

Founded in 1923 by Shinjiro Torii, Yamazaki Distillery is Japan’s oldest malt whisky distillery. It lies near Kyoto at the confluence of the Katsura, Uji and Kizu rivers. Soft water and a humid, misty microclimate characterise the location; changing temperatures and humidity provide the conditions for cask maturation. The Yamazaki brand belongs to Suntory Holdings Limited.

Yamazaki is designed to produce different whisky styles within a single distillery. Suntory’s range of production methods includes wooden and steel fermentation vessels, as well as stills of different shapes. The blenders select mature whiskies and marry them into a balanced whole. In Yamazaki Islay Peated Malt, the Tsukuriwake edition illustrates this diversity particularly through the interplay of peat smoke, sweetness and citrus notes.
