Special Features:

Maturation in two types of cask shapes Balvenie DoubleWood 12. The single malt first spends at least twelve years in American ex-bourbon casks and hogsheads. It then matures for another nine months in Spanish Oloroso sherry casks. Finally, the whiskies from the selected casks are married in large oak vats for three to four months. The first stage contributes to its smooth character, while the sherry casks add depth and nutty, spicy accents.

DoubleWood 12 was introduced in 1993. This distillery bottling contains 0.7 litres of whisky at 40% alcohol. The gift package includes two coasters.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, sweet fruit notes mingle with honey and vanilla, accompanied by a hint of Oloroso sherry.
• Palate: The whisky feels smooth and mellow on the palate. Nutty sweetness, cinnamon and a delicate sherry note define the flavour.
• Finish: The finish is long and smooth, with the influence of the sherry casks lingering.

Distillery/Bottler:

William Grant founded the Balvenie distillery in Dufftown in 1892, five years after Glenfiddich. The two distilleries share a site but produce distinct single malts. Traditional floor malting, along with on-site coopers and coppersmiths, remains part of Balvenie’s work. Malt Master David C. Stewart developed the cask finishing that defines DoubleWood; Balvenie bottles it as its own expression.
