Laphroaig Elements 3.0

Special features: The third edition of the experimental Elements series from Laphroaig was created by an unexpected peat fire in the drying oven of the malt house. This event led to a longer drying of the malt at higher temperatures, enriching the whisky with a more intense smoke and peat character. The maturation took place entirely in former bourbon barrels, and the whisky was bottled at cask strength of 55.3% vol.

Tasting Notes:

  • Nose: Dense aromas of charcoal and dark chocolate, accompanied by strong spices and maritime, salty notes. Sweet vanilla, lemon peel, and butter toffee add depth, while a hint of cinnamon along with ripe plums and dates invite the first sip.
  • Palate: An intense peat smoke unfolds, sparkling and warming, before it mingles with notes of roasted cocoa beans and dark bittersweet chocolate. The rich phenolic character gives way to a spicy fruitiness with hints of blackberries, plums, and gooseberries, followed by a delightful crème brûlée.
  • Finish: Sustained and dry with extended notes of Atlantic, leather, and rusty chimney smoke.
