Ondjaba The Namibian Whiskey - Classic

Special features: This whiskey is produced at the Erongo Mountain Winery, Namibia's first distillery at an altitude of 1,226 meters. The special thing about Ondjaba Classic is the use of regional ingredients such as Mahangu (local millet) and the smoking of the grain with elephant dung, which gives it its distinctive aroma. The aging takes place in former red wine barriques, which impart sweet, smoky, and vanilla notes to the whiskey. Awarded Gold at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition 2022, this Tropical Whiskey represents southern terroir and experimental craftsmanship.

Tasting Notes:

  • Nose: Intense sweet smoke, accompanied by vanilla and hints of cigar smoke.
  • Palate: Spicy with notes of caramel and a velvety suede touch.
  • Finish: Long-lasting, slightly dry with balanced wood aroma and pleasant warmth.

Distillery/Bottler: The Erongo Mountain Winery in Namibia remarkably combines wine and spirits production. Founded by Wolfgang and Esther Koll, a German couple, the operation has a deep connection to the indigenous culture and nature of Namibia. The name "Ondjaba" comes from the language of the Ovambo, the largest ethnic group in Namibia, and means "elephant." The entire production reflects the uniqueness of the African continent and brings new flavor worlds into the glass with this whiskey.
