Special Features:

This twelve-year-old Aberfeldy comes in a gold-coloured metal tin shaped like a gold bar. The gift packaging evokes the whisky’s nickname, “Golden Dram”. Inside is a 0.7-litre bottle of Highland single malt at 40% alcohol.

The whisky matures for twelve years in a combination of Sherry and Bourbon casks, refill casks and re-charred casks. Honey and ripe fruit define its character, while vanilla, fudge and spices add to the sweetness. A dry note meets a very faint hint of smoke on the finish.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, heather and honey mingle with ripe, lightly spiced fruit. Pineapple, toffee, light cereal and vanilla round out the aroma.
• Palate: The whisky feels rich and syrupy on the palate. Honey and sweet syrup give way to spices and a hint of orange peel, while vanilla and creamy fudge complete the flavour.
• Finish: The finish fades with gentle spice, dryness and a hint of orange peel. A very faint smoky note lingers.

Distillery/Bottler:

The Dewar family founded Aberfeldy Distillery in the Scottish Highlands in 1898. The water used for its whisky comes from Pitilie Burn, a stream known for its gold deposits and reflected in the nickname “Golden Dram”. Long fermentation and slow distillation in copper stills are part of the distillery’s approach. The twelve-year-old single malt is an official bottling in the John Dewar & Sons range.
