The Agitator Mix Pack shows how varied whisky from the distillery in Arboga can be. It contains four 0.05-litre miniatures: Agitator Single Malt, Argument: Kastanj, Single Malt Whisky Rök and Blind Seal Straight Rye Whiskey. The first three are single malts; Blind Seal adds a rye whiskey to the set. The gift box brings the four bottlings together for a comparative tasting.

Agitator Single Malt combines whiskies from bourbon, sherry, new American oak and chestnut casks. Its profile includes citrus fruit, red apple, vanilla and a slight saltiness. Argument: Kastanj first matures in bourbon casks and then receives a chestnut-wood finish. Dried fruit and raisins meet honey, vanilla and wood. In Rök, chestnut casks and former Islay whisky casks shape a lightly peated character with herbs and dried fruit. Blind Seal Straight Rye matures in new American oak, bringing a different emphasis with tropical fruit, caramel and peppery spice. Agitator Single Malt and Single Malt Whisky Rök each contain 43% alcohol; Argument: Kastanj and Blind Seal Straight Rye Whiskey each contain 46%.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Single Malt Whisky Rök shows peat, light straw, herbs and a balanced wood note on the nose. Blind Seal Straight Rye smells of grass and tropical fruit, particularly banana, pineapple and orange, with vanilla alongside them.
• Palate: Peat and herbs remain present on the palate of Single Malt Whisky Rök, joined by dried apricots. Blind Seal Straight Rye brings caramel and vanilla to the palate.
• Finish: A salty note lingers in the finish of Single Malt Whisky Rök. Blind Seal Straight Rye finishes dry, peppery and spicy.

Distillery/Bottler:

Agitator Whiskymakare was founded in 2015 and distils its whiskies in Arboga, Sweden. The distillery uses vacuum distillation: lower pressure reduces the boiling temperature, allowing gentler treatment of the raw ingredients while using less energy. Two pairs of differently shaped stills give it scope to produce lighter, fruitier or more robust spirits.

Agitator also shapes the character of its whisky before distillation. Depending on the recipe, the distillery uses different yeast cultures and lets fermentation run for seven days. For maturation, it uses chestnut wood alongside oak casks. The Mix Pack lets drinkers compare several of these choices in finished bottlings, although not every wood type is used for every whisky in the set.
