Amrut Portonova - Indian Single Malt

Special features: The Amrut Portonova is an Indian single malt whisky that matured in ex-bourbon and port wine casks and was subsequently refined in bourbon barrels. Bottled at cask strength with 62.1% vol., it presents itself in its natural color without the addition of coloring agents and without chill filtration. The name "Portonova" refers to the town of Parangipettai (Portonovo) on the east coast of India, which was under Portuguese rule from the 16th to the 18th century.

Tasting Notes:

  • Nose: An enticing bouquet of chocolate and fruits, accompanied by toffee and syrup, that captivates the senses.
  • Palate: Strong fruity notes of red berries, fruit jelly, and baked bananas, underlined by a subtle cinnamon spice that adds depth.
  • Finish: A long, rich, and fruity aftertaste that harmoniously rounds off the flavors.

Distillery/Bottler: Amrut Distilleries PVT.LTD, Kambipura, Bengaluru-560074, India. The Amrut distillery uses Indian barley from the foothills of the Himalayas and spring water from the mountains for its single malts. Under tropical conditions in Bangalore, the distillates mature intensely and faster than in Scotland, leading to exotic taste experiences.
