This single-cask bottling was distilled at Ardbeg in 1991 and matured for over 30 years in Bourbon Hogshead 1900657. La Maison du Whisky bottled it in 2023 for Artist #13 at a cask strength of 47.7%. The whisky retains its natural colour and was not chill-filtered. Each bottle contains 0.7 litres and comes in gift packaging.

The long maturation has not subdued the pronounced peat character: earthy smoke accompanied by liquorice frames maritime, roasted, fruity, spicy and floral impressions. Camphor and sandalwood add medicinal and woody contours to the powerful smoke.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, the whisky is refined and complex. An autumnal peat profile with fallen leaves and dried seaweed initially meets roasted walnut. With air, ash, vetiver, orange, mango and a medicinal note reminiscent of aspirin emerge.
• Palate: On the palate, the whisky is full yet refined. Cooked strawberry, candied ginger, gentian root and a pronounced mineral character lead to powerful smoke, camphor and sandalwood. Withered rose, pansy and carnation then develop.
• Finish: The finish is long and rich. Orange peel, clove and salted butter caramel accompany elegant malt and peat notes, while lily and iris linger in the aftertaste.

Distillery/Bottler:

The licensed history of Ardbeg Distillery on Islay dates back to 1815. After production ceased in 1981, the distillery resumed limited operations two years after its takeover in 1987; it closed again in 1991. This whisky was made during that brief period, when Ardbeg produced for only two months each year.

La Maison du Whisky created the Artist series in 2011. It pairs selected single casks with labels redesigned each year by visual artists. Artist #13 belongs to the 2024 New Vibrations collection; Taiwanese artist Wang Yung Chiu created the visual identity for the bottlings aged over 30 years. La Maison du Whisky selected Bourbon Hogshead 1900657 for this Ardbeg and handled the bottling.
