For the Artist #15 series, La Maison du Whisky selected an Ardbeg from Oloroso Sherry Butt No. 1100000016. Distilled in 2000, the single malt matured for 25 years before being bottled in 2025 at 55.4%. The single cask belongs to Something in the Water, a chapter devoted to Islay distilleries.

Peat smoke, salty notes and ripe fruit define its character; the sherry cask also brings candied orange and caramel to the fore. The whisky is non-chill-filtered and contains no added colouring. It comes in a premium box.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, dense peat smoke, soot and ash sit alongside vegetal and salty notes. Apricot, mango, roasted nuts and candied orange then emerge. With air, salted caramel, iris and wild geranium appear.
• Palate: The whisky is full and powerful on the palate. Jam, caramelised apple tart and honeyed notes of heather and lime blossom give way to increasingly prominent peat. Agave, tar, smoked bacon, iodine, porridge and toasted bread follow.
• Finish: The silky finish brings ginseng, gentian, smoke, tar and smoked fish. In the aftertaste, orange peel, raisins, dates, cardamom and candied apricots emerge.

Distillery/Bottler:

Ardbeg stands on the south coast of the Scottish island of Islay. Founded by John MacDougall in 1815, the distillery ceased production in 1981 and resumed it in 1989, initially for only two months a year. After its acquisition by The Glenmorangie Company in 1997, the distillery underwent extensive renewal. In 2021, Ardbeg doubled its distillation capacity from two stills to four.

Since 2011, La Maison du Whisky has assembled single-cask selections for the Artist series, pairing its choices of distillery, cask and bottling strength with specially created art. Radhika Surana designed the Something in the Water chapter. Elixir Distillers bottled this whisky.
